Brits in Benidorm might be in for a shock as one popular area of the Spanish town has been dubbed 'muggers alley' in fear of criminals who are trying to steal from tourists

Police officers in Spain have released a warning to Brits hoping to enjoy a holiday in Benidorm this summer – stay away from one area.

The area has been dubbed Muggers Alley after a video emerged of women targeting men walking down a dark street in Benidorm, often revealing their chests to entice the opposite sex. The tourist hotspot set on the East coastline of Spain attracts hundreds of Brits every year, but this particular spot might be one to avoid at all costs, says a local who has been visiting the area for years.

A Brit who has lived in Benidorm for well over ten years told The Spanish Eye: "This has been going on for a long time, it’s outside the Magic Villa de Benidorm and right next to the local tourist police station, which is closed in the evening."

Videos of the area at night have been released online, with one in particular showing a woman walking out into the alleyway and right in front of a man with her arms out in to stop him from moving.

Three women then grab him by his shirt as he tries to walk away to remove himself from the situation. The video was filmed by tourists sitting on their balcony at night.

They said they spent several nights throwing water down on the women while shouting warnings to tourists walking by. This incident took place near the Magic Villa hotel.

It has been dubbed Benidorm's Muggers Alley and, incredibly, is located just metres from a police station dedicated to helping tourists.

The Policia Nacional told The Spanish Eye they are aware of several reports made in the area, and they have "intervened and arrested the perpetrators several times". And their work is not yet done.

It added: "As a preventative measure, continuous patrols are carried out in this area, as well as throughout the rest of the town, to prevent the commission of this crime."

It then listed several key bits of advice for tourists coming to Benidorm: "Always keep an eye on your personal belongings, especially in crowded areas.

"Do not keep cell phones or wallets in back pockets or easily accessible areas. Be wary of strangers who approach you with vague excuses or exaggerated gestures.

"In the event of a robbery, do not confront the offender directly and notify the police immediately. Write down the IMEI (serial) number of your device to facilitate its recovery in case of theft."

The couple who did the filming added the muggers come out at 9pm. They added: "We witnessed them try to shake a man’s wedding ring and watch off his hand a few days ago…

"We’ve noticed they’ll all take it in turns to change clothes, and when they go to mug someone usually it’ll be one or two girls and they’ll try to stroke your arm or flirt with you [sometimes will pull their boobs out]."

They also warned Brits to keep their hands in their pockets and hide all of their possessions if they need to walk down the alley – or avoid it completely.
