The French government is preparing to send a new survival manual to households across the country, offering guidance on how to respond to potential terrifying emergencies

A new survival guide is being sent out to homes across France. The government is providing advice on reactions to potential emergency situations. This 20-page booklet covers preparedness for scenarios including armed conflict, natural calamities, industrial mishaps, or nuclear incidents.

Reportedly comprising 63 steps, the brochure aims to impart knowledge about self-protection and assisting others, coupled with information on how citizens can engage in local defence initiatives, through actions like joining reserve forces or firefighting squads.

Despite the current conflict in Ukraine, the French government has stressed this guide isn't a knee-jerk reaction, though The Telegraph cites President Emmanuel Macron's expressed concern over the mounting "Russian threat" and theories about the United States scaling back its military role in Europe.

Pending confirmation from Prime Minister Francois Bayrou, French households could receive the manual by summer, as indicated by French press.

Included in its advisories, the booklet prompts the populace to compile an emergency kit replete with food, water, batteries, and medical essentials such as paracetamol, gauze pads, and saline solution.

Should a nuclear incident occur, the government's newest guidance is to batten down the hatches and remain indoors. A representative from the Prime Minister's office commented that the manual is crafted to boost "the resilience of populations in the face of all types of crisis, whether natural, technological, cyber, or security-related", reports the Express.

The trend of spreading such advisories is catching on across Europe.

In 2023, Sweden took to reaching its citizens with five million leaflets named "If Crisis or War Comes", pressing them to prepare for possible military scenarios.

The publication sounded the alarms on escalating military dangers and suggested hoarding food and water, holding onto some hard cash, and growing their own vegetable.

Finland too swung into action, spinning up a government portal to coach its folk on bracing for varied crunch scenarios.

Following Russia's thrust into Ukraine, both Sweden and Finland hitched their stars to NATO's wagon, taking leave of their long-standing neutral stances.

In France, the handbook has received mixed feelings from around France. Le Figaro wrote it "could easily be interpreted as a reaction to the unstable international situation."

According to the French government, the manual is a component of a national resilience strategy devised in 2022 in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, with the goal of equipping citizens to cope with diverse crises and enhancing public communication during emergencies.
